Concert check: Beastie Boys at Gronan July 5th.
Posted By ontheroad @ July 6, 2007 @ 4:41 amA quarter of a century in the spotlight and the Jewish guys(Mike D, Ad-Rock, MCA)from Manhattan still spits rimes as pumping machine-gun’s. The scenery is the amusement park of Gröna Lund in Stockholm, Sweden and the crowd is young and so is most of the material collected from their latest album ”the mix-up”.
Tonight, especially Mike D is shining with his bizzar humour such as his constant threats about the ”revenge of the mean witch”. The audience is reponding accordingly. Some parts of the concert is real moments of magic and what other hip-hop group could name songs after “pingu” and give each other flowers on stage and still rock?
The boards of in the back of the stage is Mixmaster Mike’s territory and also he is shining this night mixing anything from Punjabi MC to Curtis Mayfield and there of lifting already brilliant classics such as “sabotage” and “sure shot” to even higher levels. Also the keyboardist, Money Mark is on his best mode and rivals Mixmaster and Mike D on the title “Clown of Stockholm” as he’s frenetically hammering his instrument. MCA however, the gray-haired political activist and Buddist of the group is surprisingly quiet this night. Maby not that suprisingly giving it some thinking.
